GROUP THERAPY Gold Coast

Here you can find information about upcoming group therapy sessions with Dr Sia

What is Group Therapy?

Group Therapy is a collaborative approach to healing and personal development.

At Attach Psychology, individuals who are carefully selected, participate in small groups to benefit from the clinical experience of our psychologist, Dr Sia.

Group Therapy would suit you if one-on-one sessions sound too intense. Participating in this way means you learn, not just from the therapist, but also from the experiences of other people in the group.

In response to this need, Dr Sia has put together a collection of Group Therapy modalities for adults. These include DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy), ISTDP (Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy), Couples, and Attachment-based Group Therapy sessions.

In a Group Therapy session, you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in a safe, confidential, non-judgmental environment.

During an initial consultation with Dr Sia, your needs will be carefully considered to determine if Group Therapy is the right fit for you.

ISTDP Gold Coast (Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy)

Dr Sia specialises in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP).

Feeling safe, anxiety well regulated, toxic defence mechanisms disarmed, and being free to experience genuine feelings are key to a good life.

ISTDP is a modern therapy that attempts to achieve just that.

What is ISTDP?

This is a goal-oriented and highly effective therapeutic approach designed to quickly identify and address deep-seated emotional issues that may be holding you back.

Watch this YouTube video to hear Dr Sia explain ISTDP.

Based on attachment theory, psychodynamic theory, neurobiology, and psychophysiology, ISTDP examines how childhood patterns can lead to anxiety-provoking defence mechanisms. Often these are used without you even being aware of it.

ISTDP has proved to be effective. It’s an evidence-based treatment with a strong theoretical basis. Book an Individual Session

CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy)

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is the most scientifically tested therapy there is. Just about anything and everything that could be scientifically tested about CBT, has been.

What is CBT?

CBT is based largely on psychological models of pathology and treatment, Behavioural Theory, and Neurobiology.

It helps you recognise the triggers of your thoughts and how your thoughts cause your feelings, then how your feelings in turn cause your behaviours.

If you'd rather watch a video on the topic, check out this youtube video where Dr Sia explains CBT.

CBT helps you reframe your negative or toxic thoughts into more rational thoughts and helps you develop more healthy behaviours.

DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy)

With Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, the focus is on helping identify the triggers to trauma-based and defensive attachment patterns.

DBT aims to regulate anxiety and change the ways people relate to themselves and others.

This therapy assists with normalisation of problems and focuses on a sense of common humanity in the problems you are facing.
